Step 1

Installation or Functionality Issues

If the extension does not appear in your Chrome toolbar or is not working correctly:

• Check Activation: Open chrome://extensions and confirm that Online Content Removal Checklist — ORM24 is enabled.
• Pin the Extension: Click the puzzle icon 🧩 in the Chrome toolbar, then click the pin icon beside Online Content Removal Checklist.
• Restart Chrome: Close and reopen Chrome to complete the installation.
• Reload the Extension: If installed manually, open chrome://extensions and select the reload icon on the extension card.

Step 2

How to Use the Extension

• Open a website connected to the content you are reviewing.
• Click the ORM24 extension icon in the Chrome toolbar.
• Work through the 20 numbered content-removal checkpoints.
• Click a checkpoint title to display its instructions and recommended information to record.
• Select the checkbox when a step is complete.
• Use Expand All to display every checkpoint description.
• Use Save Progress to save the current checklist manually.
• Use Export to download the checklist as a JSON report.
• Use Reset to clear progress for the current website.

Progress is saved automatically whenever a checklist item is changed.

Step 3

What the Checklist Covers

The checklist helps organize essential content-removal tasks, including:

• Defining the case scope
• Capturing the unwanted content
• Building a URL inventory
• Identifying the original source
• Finding duplicate copies
• Classifying the content and issue
• Checking accuracy and context
• Reviewing platform policies
• Assessing privacy grounds
• Verifying identity or ownership
• Considering public-interest factors
• Selecting the appropriate removal route
• Preparing supporting evidence
• Submitting and tracking requests
• Verifying the source outcome
• Checking search visibility
• Monitoring for reappearance
• Planning an alternative response

The extension is a workflow and organization tool. It does not automatically submit requests or remove online content.

Step 4

Website-Specific Progress

Checklist progress is stored separately for each website hostname.

For example, progress recorded while viewing example.com is separate from progress recorded while viewing anotherwebsite.com.

To continue an existing checklist, open the same website and launch the extension.

Step 5

Why “General Checklist” Appears

The extension displays General checklist when Chrome cannot provide a standard website hostname.

This may happen when the active page is:

• A local file:// page
• An internal chrome:// page
• The Chrome Web Store
• Another browser-controlled or restricted page

Open a standard http:// or https:// website to create and save a website-specific checklist.

Step 6

Export Issues

If the checklist report does not download:

• Check whether Chrome has blocked the download.
• Review Chrome’s download settings and destination folder.
• Reopen the extension and select Export again.
• Confirm that the downloaded file has a .json extension.

The exported report includes:

• The associated website hostname
• The export date and time
• All 20 checkpoint titles
• Completion status for each checkpoint
• Review guidance
• Recommended records and actions

The report is generated only when the user selects Export.

Step 7

Resetting Checklist Progress

Selecting Reset displays a confirmation message before progress is cleared.

Resetting affects only the checklist associated with the current website or the General checklist. Progress stored for other websites remains available.

Step 8

Restricted Pages

Chrome limits extension access on certain browser-controlled pages, including:

• chrome:// pages
• The Chrome Web Store
• Some local files
• Other protected browser pages

On these pages, the extension may display the General checklist instead of a website hostname.

Step 9

Data Privacy

Checklist progress is stored locally through Chrome’s chrome.storage.local API.

The extension does not:

• Read or scan webpage content
• Collect personal information
• Access browsing history
• Use analytics or tracking technologies
• Send checklist data to external servers
• Share information with third parties
