Purpose

Use Google’s account-based feature to monitor supported personal information, request removal of individual results, and view request status.

Applicable policy and verification date

Google states that Results about you can find contact information such as a home address, phone number, or email and supports certain government ID numbers. Some features are rolling out only to users over 18 in certain markets. Verified 2026-10-17. (Google feature instructions)

Audience

An affected adult submitting for themself where the feature is available. A representative, a person who does not want to sign in, or a request concerning a minor should use the detailed form.

Before you begin

Use a Google Account whose email can receive status messages. Prepare the affected person’s name and only the personal information needed for monitoring.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the Results about you feature.
  • The request concerns the signed-in user.
  • The user does not control the exposed information.

Required inputs and evidence

Google’s setup accepts a name and supported contact or identity details. Removal of a specific result requires matching the name and information displayed. Keep a separate redacted case log for the URL, date, and status.

Procedure: monitor results

  1. Sign in and open Results about you.
  2. Select Get started or Settings.
  3. Enter the name and supported personal information to monitor.
  4. Choose notification settings.
  5. Review matches under To review and open a result to inspect its source and detected information.
  6. Select Request to remove for an eligible result, or Mark as reviewed if no request is needed.

Procedure: request from a Search result

  1. Sign in and search for the affected person’s name.
  2. Open About this result from the result’s More control.
  3. Select Remove result, then the reason indicating personal information and the contact-information category.
  4. Complete the reporting flow and submit.

Expected result

Google sends a confirmation email and lists the request under Removal requests. Published status labels are In progress, Approved, Denied, and Undone. A request detail can show the flagged page, submission date/time, request ID, and flagged contact information.

Next steps

Read Request status and Decision outcomes. Contact the website owner if source deletion is required.

Troubleshooting and exceptions

  • If no Remove result option appears for a government, educational, newspaper, or other public-value source, use the detailed form only if another applicable route exists; the missing option is not itself an error.
  • Use the detailed form for someone else. Google says a representative request submitted through the representative’s own Results about you account may be denied.
  • A paywalled page can still be reported; Google directs self-found paywalled results to the detailed form.
  • Google says email confirmation usually arrives within a few hours and an approved result can take a further few hours to disappear; it does not publish a general decision deadline on this page.
